NOTES::

  • This week's No. 99 Aaron's Dream Machine Toyota at Atlanta Motor Speedway ... Trevor Bayne will pilot Chassis No. 053 from the Michael Waltrip Racing NASCAR Nationwide Series stable this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway.  Built new for 2009, Scott Speed sat on the pole with this car at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.  Unfortunately, Speed was caught in a wreck early in the race and crossed the finish line 40th.
  • What a Start ... In nine starts behind the wheel of the No. 99 Toyota Camry, Bayne has tallied a 5.66 starting average.  Additionally, he grabbed his first NNS pole at O'Reilly Raceway Park in June and crossed the finish line seventh.  His highest NNS finish to date.
  • Atlanta Debut ... Bayne will make his first start at AMS Saturday afternoon.   This will only be his fifth start on a track 1.5-miles or bigger.
  • 11th Nationwide Series Start ... Bayne will make his 11th-career NNS start this weekend at AMS.  In 10 previous starts, he boasts one top-10 and four top-15 finishes, a 7.7 starting average and 20.1 finishing average.  He has completed 93.9 percent (2,070 of 2,204) of the laps contested.
  • Welcome Back, Bayne ... Bayne returns to the seat of the Aaron's Toyota after a one-race hiatus.  During this time, teammate Patrick Carpentier captured a 38th-place finish after losing an engine at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
  • Vote, Vote, Vote ... Go to www.nascar.com and cast your votes for Bayne as the 2009 Most Popular Driver of the Year Award.  Fans may vote or submit a write-in candidate once per day and are encouraged to vote throughout the season.  Voting ends Oct. 31 for the NNS.  Results will be announced at the respective series' season-end banquet.
  • After 25 ... Over the season's first 25 races, the No. 99 team has notched four top-10 and 12 top-15 finishes.  The MWR team sits 16th in the owners' point standings.  They are only 182 points behind the No. 62 entry owned by Rusty Wallace in 15th.

QUOTES:

You have turned a lot of heads in your qualifying effort this year.  What do you contribute to your success?

"Jerry Baxter (crew chief) and the No. 99 team have done a great job to give me a solid race car for qualifying and the race.   I also think I have the ability to turn up the heat when something is on the line.  However, it's not where you start it's where you finish so we really need to start focusing on finishing the race in one piece."

You have three races left this season what are your goals these final races?

"My goals are to finish, finish and finish.  I think we have figured out how to qualify now I need to figure out how to finish the races in one piece.  I think I need to learn a little bit of patience.  I think I need to look at the big picture sometimes.  I need to remember that the race is 200 to 300 laps and not just 25 laps.  I think if we can just focus on finishing each race we will start grabbing a lot of top-10 finishes."

What is your plan for 2010?

"Well right now I am just focusing on finishing the last three races this season strong.  MWR and Gary Bechtel have been working together the past couple of weeks to finalize a plan for next year.  A lot of what we do next year depends on finding sponsorship.  However, I hope to run a full season in the No. 99 Toyota and compete for the championship."
