Chase Elliott is Back on Track with Victory at Lanier

Lunes, 9 de Febrero de 2009

DAWSONVILLE, Ga. (February 8, 2009) –  After back-to-back heartbreaks for Chase Elliott in the Georgia Winter Series, he was looking forward to getting back on track at Lanier National Speedway (Braselton, Ga.) in the No. 9 Aaron’s Lucky Dog Dream Machine.  And that’s exactly what he did.  Elliott dominated the Legends Semi-Pro field, starting from the pole and leading every lap to return to Winner’s Circle for the second time this season.

In a flashback to last weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway (Hampton, Ga.), Elliott held off pressure from the No. 4 of Kyle Plott throughout the entire race.  This time, though, Elliott crossed the finished line first and headed straight to Winner’s Circle.

“I led the whole race with the 4 car [Plott] behind me, and we were coming up on a lapped car,” recalls Elliott.  “It was like déjà vu from last week except the tower told him we were coming this time.  I was able to hold him off and win.  I had a lot of fun, and I can’t wait to head to Orlando for Winter Nationals.”

The Lucky Dog Dream Machine started off a little loose getting into the corners in practice.  In the first session, someone dropped oil on the track, changing the handling of the racing surface.

Elliott drew a 16 in the random draw that determines starting positions for heat races, which lined him up second in the second heat race.  Elliott jumped out front and went on to win the heat race.  Ricky Turner, this week's crew chief, made the race winning adjustment, Elliott recalls, putting the Aaron's Lucky Dog Dream Machine out front for the win.

Elliott started from the pole in the Semi-Pro feature race and led every lap with pressure from the No. 4 of Plott.  As the two approached lapped cars, the tower radioed for them to yield to the leaders, and there were no incidents this week.  Elliott cruised to his second victory of the 2008-09 Georgia Winter Series and his fifth top-two finish in seven starts.

This week, Elliott will be competing in his first Legends Winter Nationals at Orlando (Fla.) SpeedWorld.  In his first national competition last fall, Elliott practiced, qualified and raced in the top-ten all weekend, posting an impressive sixth place finish in a field where he was the youngest driver.

Chase Elliott is sponsored by Aaron’s Sales & Lease Ownership, the Bill Elliott Driver Development program, the Dawsonville Pool Room, VP Racing Fuels, Racing Electronics, Oakley, and Bell Helmets.
