Reutimann Starts on the Pole at Texas Motor Speedway, Brings the Aaron’s Dream Machine Home in 11th

Lunes, 06 de abril de 2009

FORT WORTH, Texas – Before an estimated crowd of 176,300 spectators, David Reutimann and the No. 00 Aaron’s Dream Machine Toyota team posted an 11th place finish in today’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event at Texas Motor Speedway. Starting on the pole, Reutimann ran in the top-five for most of the opening laps until a penalty in the pits caused the Aaron’s Dream Machine to lose a lap, but Reutimann was able to fight back and finish strong, concluding on the lead lap holding firm to his 11th place position in driver points.

Leading the field of 43 to the green for only his second time in the Sprint Cup Series, Reutimann had an exceptionally fast car which seemed to run better than most in the long runs. However, an early penalty during a caution flag pit stop at lap 157, the second of the race when the #19 spun out, put the Aaron’s Dream Machine one lap down. As Reutimann was trying to enter his pit, Hornish in the 77 pulled out in front of him causing Reutimann to enter deeper in the box than planned. NASCAR officials deemed the spoiler of the Aaron’s Dream Machine was over the line and the crew would have to push back before any service could be done.

Reutimann was assessed with a one lap penalty for pitting out of his box while the crew made adjustments to the car before pushing back. Crew Chief Rodney Childers took the blame for not catching the mistake. Nevertheless, driver, crew chief and crew stayed calm and focused never looking back, they knew they had a fast car and with more than half the race still to run, Rodney felt the Dream Machine could get the lap back by racing hard and receiving the Aaron’s Lucky Dog Free Pass.

Reutimann did his job well, he stayed focused and ran hard, fighting loose conditions, the Dream Machine was still fast and he proved it by becoming the 1st car one lap down. Reutimann needed to catch a break, which he received at lap 252, when the caution flag flew due to oil on the track. The Aaron’s Dream Machine received the Aaron’s Lucky Dog Free Pass and was back on the lead lap.

Reutimann would restart in18th place on the lead lap. He worked his way up as far as10th but ran out of laps and settled for an 11th place finish. It was a very successful and exciting weekend as Reutimann continued to prove he’s the real thing; he definitely deserves all his success.

Reutimann and the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will have next weekend off for Easter.  He will return to the No. 00 Aaron’s Dream Machine on April 18th at Phoenix International
